Pricing

What does Rehearsal cost?

We’ve priced Rehearsal so that any performer can afford it.

First, it’s free to download, and, you get all you can eat, for free, for the first 30 days after you register.

Then, once that free month is over, you’ll be asked to choose one of the following three options the next time you work with a script:

1. Use Rehearsal by the script at $1.99 each if you’re only getting auditions or performing every couple of weeks, and you’ll spend about the cost of a cappuccino each month to use it.

2. Or, at $19,99, by the month is best for the working actor or the voiceover artist who’s getting more than 10 scripts to work with each month – you get unlimited scripts, so Rehearsal is instantly ready for you.

3. Finally, at $199.99, by the year is like getting two months free – again, with unlimited script importing. You can upgrade to monthly or yearly at any time.

Whatever you choose, you get a full 30 days just to try it out. All pricing includes all updates, ongoing support and new content each month.

    Hi,
I just uploaded my first play script for a call back — it was a pdf of pages from a published play, and was sent to me rotated (landscape, two pages per page). It seems that Rehearsal (which seems like a) can’t handle that. When you update, think about stage actors who may work from that format.
    Thanks!

I meant, “seems like a great app”

  3. Comment by David H. Lawrence XVII — March 1, 2010 @ 11:14 am

Ellen – thank you so much. Brian and I are watching the comments and usages carefully and are compiling a list of things to upgrade – and that’s certainly a great idea. In the meantime, is there any way you can manipulate the PDF to become single pages, and then forward it over? Hrm….let me think about that.

    David

DMB – I’m not sure how we could be more clear about the options for using the app after your free 30 days ends, as the description’s first and fourth paragraphs read:

Want to learn your lines? This is the app for that. Rehearsal, is the professional tool for actors and other members of the production crew to organize their scripts for auditions and working on set. Battle tested in Hollywood by actors on shows like Heroes, LOST, Desperate Housewives, Psych, Gigantic and more. Free to download, and your first week’s usage is free…Rehearsal is free to download, and you get 30 days of unlimited usage. After that, it’s downright cheap to use this robust, professional tool – pay by the script, by the month or by the year, so whether you’re getting one audition a month, or you’re a series regular working every day, you’ll find Rehearsal worth every penny.

I also hope that you found all of the features that go way beyond a simple “glorified PDF reader” like recording your scenes and rehearsing them. That’s not able to be done with any PDF reader I know of, and it’s the heart of the app.

No matter what, I do appreciate you giving Rehearsal a try.

    David

Way to Pricey for simply being a glorified PDF Reader. I was misled by the APP info on iTunes. Didn’t know I’d be paying per script or monthly. Not worth it

    Hi

Brilliant idea for an app – strange there hasn’t been anything like it yet (as far as I could see)! Anyway, kudos on designing this.

My comment – if you’re going to have a free month of uploads, why not time it from the first upload? Or does that present problems? I downloaded the app yesterday, and want to “get the feel of it” before uploading anything, so it’ll be over a week before I do so.

Just a thought! Either way – great app.

    Mark

  7. Comment by David H. Lawrence XVII — March 9, 2010 @ 2:42 pm

We actually time your free 30 days of Rehearsal from when you register, and you don’t have to register until you get ready to add a script. You can work with the two scripts that are already in the app all you want before registering.

I do appreciate the thoughts – we’re still sorting out how we’re going to do some things, and we’ll look at our registration and free 30 day Rehearsal trial period as well. And thank you for auditioning Rehearsal.

    David

  8. Comment by Mark Lisseman — March 10, 2010 @ 2:40 am

Ah – my bad then. I overlooked the registration details/info.

    Thanks, Mark.

    Hi David,

I’m having real problems at the moment sending scripts to myself. I’ve tried sending my PDF script from two e-mail accounts now (both have been added and approved) yet it’s still not appearing when I click on Add New Scripts. Is this an error or is their just a time lag before it appears?

Thanks and great idea for the app. Also great work on Heroes! I’ve never missed an episode!

    Best regards, Lewis

  10. Comment by David H. Lawrence XVII — March 11, 2010 @ 8:58 am

Thank you for your kind words on Heroes, and thank you for watching! I will look into why your scripts haven’t shown up – I just did a test and things are working for me. Let me dig into it further, and I may ping you offline to examin your scripts. Size may be an issue – you can’t send a file larger than the gateway of your ISP (Hotmail). But let me check.

    David

    Hi,
just giving a try to your app.
It’s me or there is no way to add a photo from the Photo Album?
I’m not an actor but a video-scenographer, so my needs are more about to link images from Photoshop rather than from the camera.
antway, it’s a very clever app

  12. Comment by David H. Lawrence XVII — March 14, 2010 @ 8:28 am

If you’re talking about the Photo or Video Comments, then yes – just double tap next to the line you want to add a photo or video from your Photo Album to, then choose the last option, below the Shoot Video option (if you’re in landscape mode, it’s not visible unless you scroll). It’s called From Photo Library – there you go! We had no choice in terms of those buttons and the From Photo Library being “hidden” in landscape mode, but it’s completely visible in portrait mode.

    Did that answer your question?

  13. Comment by Esther — March 19, 2010 @ 12:16 am

..If I delete this app before the end of 30 days
and don’t select three options(about cost),

cost will not be charged to me through my new account(which is created when I register)??

  14. Comment by David H. Lawrence XVII — March 19, 2010 @ 12:25 am

Yes, Esther. You don’t actually have to delete the app – there’s no automatic charge unless you want to use it. You choose how to pay for it when you add your first script after the free 30 day unlimited trial is over. But, if for peace of mind you want to delete the app, feel free.

  15. Comment by Esther — March 19, 2010 @ 12:42 am

Thank you for your fast answer.

This app is so nice and has fabulous design(I’ve ever seen!).
But, I am a student and my major is Law- so I don’t have any presentation to use this app…
Sooner or later when I get a job and then I’ll use this app.

  16. Comment by Pierre — March 26, 2010 @ 6:32 am

    Hi David,

I just downloaded your app and it’s brilliant! After the US, it’s now started conquering France ;)
    Thanks for creating it.

As far as subsrciption is concerned, if I may: to avoid negative remarks, you might want to add a line at the end of the description on iTunes: I know it’s clearly stated in the 4th paragraph, but as the end is usually where pricing is stated for other apps…

That said, do you think an “life-time” fee is something feasible?
Such as for Quickoffice for instance, you pay a single fee and can then use the app as much as you want without having to pay a fee again.
I know I’d rather pay a little more and know there’s no time-limit…

    Again: thanks for this!

  17. Comment by David H. Lawrence XVII — March 26, 2010 @ 6:51 am

It’s actually mentioned several places, including the end of the very first paragraph you see. Apple gave us suggested placement – some of what you see is due to their guidance when they put us on the front page of the App Store.

As for a lifetime fee – what would you suggest? Our current structure is US$1.99 per script, US$19.99 per month, or US$199.99 per year. If the iPhone has a lifetime of 5 years, then it would be around $1000 if a working actor used it for all that time. What do you suggest? What would you pay right now, knowing what you know about Rehearsal (but not knowing the scrumptious things we have planned for v2 – and have to be funded – and v3, v4 etc). Looking for some guidance. We can certainly consider it!

  18. Comment by Pierre — March 26, 2010 @ 7:55 am

For the mentioning of the suscription… I guess people will just have to learn to read then ;)

After using the app a bit, there is one thing that could be cool: being able to hide just one highlighted color (i.e just one character)

And as for the lifetime fee, $1000 seems rather a lot (not saying it isn’t worthit, but seems a lot), especially after comparing it to Quickoffice connect mobile suite… that now costs 12€ (something like $15, I guess).
Quite frankly, I think 250€ (around $300 ?) would be about it. At least, it’s the price I’d settle for were it my very own app… but as you’re the boss…

Did I say thanks for making this app? ;)

Just going to try this out for a film script. If i get on set and i’ve improved i will not only bestow theatrical style kisses upon you i will shout about this app from the rooftops,
    Paul

  20. Comment by David H. Lawrence XVII — April 11, 2010 @ 11:18 am

Wow…that’s a lot of pressure, Paul. Let’s hope Rehearsal can be all that and a bag of chips for you. Let us know if you need any help or tips/techniques on working with film length scripts. Do make sure to rename your scenes/takes when you record them: if you’re recording for rehearsal, say, scene 18, make sure when you’re done recording you rename the scene something like Scene 18 Take 1 (Rehearsal will iterate the take number for you if you record it again later). It’s been working like a charm for me on the set of Pizza Man, a feature I’m shooting opposite Frankie Muniz. Thanks for giving Rehearsal a shot!

  21. Comment by Renee Pezzotta — April 15, 2010 @ 10:45 pm

I love this app! I’m always getting my husband to run lines with me, because I need to hear the lines to learn them. This app is awesome for the iPad. I’m preparing for an audition tomorrow morning! Thanks!

  22. Comment by David H. Lawrence XVII — April 15, 2010 @ 10:56 pm

I am so happy you like it! We found in our preliminary survey that, not only do you learn your lines faster and with more accuracy when you speak them out loud, you immediately begin exploring the different ways the character can say the lines.

Go knock ‘em dead and get that part!

    David

  23. Comment by Renee Pezzotta — April 16, 2010 @ 3:24 pm

Thanks David! I rocked it at the audition! One feature suggestion I have, (or maybe it’s here and I just don’t know how to use it) is…a pause button, for both the record and the play back.

  25. Comment by Chris — April 21, 2010 @ 5:27 pm

Sending all my actors to this site. No more excuses! :-)

  26. Comment by Keith — April 27, 2010 @ 3:39 am

Nicely brings together tasks I currently do on separate programs… but in a business that is already nickel and diming actors to death I can’t get behind yet another monthly fee for a service. I’d much rather PAY you for the app and let our business be done. I’m already paying for breakdown info / sides, godawful services like actors access, 800casting, etc. Spare a community of already burdened people by letting us load the PDF files in ourselves and just see us the app. I’ll just go back to my multiple app approach and save myself the two c-notes a year.

  27. Comment by David H. Lawrence XVII — April 27, 2010 @ 4:00 am

No prob, Keith. Thanks for giving Rehearsal a try. We have over 50 enhancements in the next rev that the in-app purchases are funding. And you don’t have to pay the yearly fee. If you’re only getting a couple of auditions a month, you’ll pay $4 to use it. It’s the value of what you can do with the notes, the multiple scene rehearsals kept in memory and more that’s made me a better actor. Again, thanks.

  28. Comment by Rick — May 3, 2010 @ 11:54 am

TERRIFIC app! Thanks David. I would suggest a wish for future features is to somehow sync scripts in a cloud or locally so that I could open up the same script on either my iphone or ipad and retain any markups/annotations that I have made.

  29. Comment by David H. Lawrence XVII — May 3, 2010 @ 12:32 pm

That is actually on our list of enhancements forthcoming – we’re working on a lot! I appreciate your kind words as well.

Just wanted you to know that on the basis of Patrick Fabian and your own recommendation (okay and that you worked at UDK with my wife Carol LOL) I’ve signed up. Look forward to seeing how this goes…

    Nice app thanks
i am a high school teacher and my students started using this in class.
I cant see lots of them paying for rehearsal but that doesn’t detract from a great idea.
    A couple of suggestions
a bare bones feature limited version for a lower price that might hook kids and prospective purchasers of the full program
a lap/desktop interface that can sync with rehearsal in the phone on the phone (or perhaps there is already?)
a interface with calendar so students can access, sync and edit rehearsal and performance schedules through the app

    good luck

  33. Comment by madhav — June 25, 2010 @ 6:15 am

It would be really nice if rehearsal could support word documents as well. makes it easier when you are using your own scripts since you may make modifications during the course of the rehearsals. just a suggestion for future upgrades.

  34. Comment by David H. Lawrence XVII — June 25, 2010 @ 10:58 pm

Done. That’s how much we care about what you want.

Actually, Word docs have been supported from the moment the app was available – if there’s any place in the documentation that infers that we only support PDF, please let us know.

  35. Comment by Dean — July 3, 2010 @ 1:03 pm

Love the app! This is going to be very helpful learning lines and keeping notes. I recently upgraded to ver. 1.2 and was hoping to have multi-tasking features with it, ie: I hoped it would save my place in the script when I came back to it, but no luck. Hopefully, that’s a feature that can be added in a future update. Also, I thought the scribble mode would be great, but with certain characters I write, I keep bringing up the comment options screen. -Guess I need to learn to not lift up my finger. Lastly, it’s definitely taking longer to load the script (just see black screen for several seconds). Still, overall, this is a great tool for actors -Thank You!

  36. Comment by David H. Lawrence XVII — July 3, 2010 @ 1:19 pm

We’ve noticed that the comment sheet is being generated, especially if you write quickly – the letterforms that require two strokes (a K for example) are being interpreted as a double tap in the new OS. We’re going to get that fixed ASAP. The app should remember exactly what you were doing and where you were in a script’s scene – it does for me, but let me know under what conditions you’re seeing this, and we’ll take a look at it. As for loading, mine seems to be “quadranting” when it draws – one quarter of the page at a time – Brian and I will figure that out as well.

    David
